Do you know what the scientific name of a so-called “cuddle hormone” is? Take a moment to remember — it’s oxytocin. And people, most of us, being a tribal species, are irrevocable oxytocin-holics. We love and need a good shot of it once in a while, it elevates trust, comforts us, calms us, gives us the feeling of security, and strengthens our social bonds. This is what contributes to the good feeling we get when we belong. And it is most important for our happiness, health, and, from the evolutionary standpoint, even survival.

There is fortunately a way to make your oxytocin levels surge that is available to most of us. It’s hugging, or touching and cuddling in general. A Hug Holiday Day this year is celebrated on June, 29. This holiday is to promote trust, kindness, and attachment between people. And that’s the day when we encourage you to issue some warmest hugs to the people around you (make sure, of course, they are comfortable with it) — the people that, as far as you see, could use a good hug and the people you want to express your greatest appreciation to.

Embrace your child

We want to focus on the dearest part of our tribe — our kids. It’s them who need our care and protection the most. And to further support the idea, we have prepared an eBook you can read together with your child after giving them a hug. It will help you have an open conversation about things the child might face on the internet. Isn’t it the best day for this? Written to be simple yet entertaining, it will definitely catch your kid’s attention. Check it out and download below.

There is more! We’ve compiled abstracts from the eBook in a pledge the child and the parent are supposed to agree upon and sign. It is to be a visible reminder of the best internet practices they should adhere to. And the fact that they sign it is likely to increase the degree of responsibility they’ll do this with. Go through it together and then agree on the place it’ll be hung at.
